Electrical and Optical Model of Reverse Mode Liquid Crystal Cells with Low Driving Voltage

چکیده

Electrical and optical properties in reverse mode polymer stabilized liquid crystal (LC) cells have been investigated. We proposed a light scattering model between LC domains with different domain sizes to describe low driving voltage. The reorientation large small was numerically investigated by fitting the measured relative permittivity of cell as function applied Transmittance considering two size estimated addition due refractive index mismatching matrix. By theoretical curve experimental data, we found that dominant for voltage cell.

Low voltage blue-phase liquid crystal displays

A protrusion electrode structure is proposed to dramatically lower the operation voltage of the emerging blue-phase liquid crystal displays BP-LCDs . Simulation results indicate that the generated horizontal electric field is not only strong but also penetrates deeply into the bulk LC layer. As a result, a low voltage 10 Vrms and reasonably high transmittance 70% BP-LCD can be achieved. This ap...

Voltage transfer function as an optical method to characterize electrical properties of liquid crystal devices.

The voltage transfer function is a rapid and visually effective method to determine the electrical response of liquid crystal (LC) systems using optical measurements. This method relies on crosspolarized intensity measurements as a function of the frequency and amplitude of the voltage applied to the device. Coupled with a mathematical model of the device it can be used to determine the device ...

Low-voltage-driven electromechanical effects of swollen liquid-crystal elastomers.

We experimentally investigate, in detail, electromechanical effects in liquid-crystal elastomers (LCEs) previously swollen with low-molecular-weight liquid crystals (LMWLCs). Both polydomain (POLY) and monodomain (MONO) LCEs were studied. We used a well known LMWLC, 4-n-pentyl-4-cyanobiphenyl (5CB) as a solvent. After swelling POLY and MONO LCEs (LSCE) with 5CB, shape changes were measured by r...

Driving matrix liquid crystal displays

Liquid crystal displays had a humble beginning with wrist watches in the seventies. Continued research and development in this multi-disciplinary field have resulted in displays with increased size and complexity. After three decades of growth in performance, LCDs now offer a formidable challenge to the cathode ray tubes (CRT). A major contribution to the growth of LCD technology has come from ...

A new TN-ECB mode reflective liquid crystal display with large cell gap and low operating voltage

A new TN-ECB mode liquid crystal display is developed for reflective liquid crystal displays (RLCDs). This new TN-ECB mode has a larger cell gap and lower operating voltage than most recently developed RLCDs. It also has a small wavelength dispersion and has a good dark state at the low operating voltage. It is particularly suitable for reflective crystalline Si backplane CMOS AMLCDs.
